All work painted in handmade natural ink on 100% pure linen.

Oak gall ink dates back to the 4th Century and was favoured to write manuscripts throughout the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Made from crushed galls found on or around oak trees. These peculiar balls are created when a gall wasp lays an egg on an oak tree branch, leaf or twig, simultaneously injecting a hormone into the plant tissue, causing it to grow a cocoon like shield around the developing wasp larvae. Once the wasp has hatched, the galls can be harvested and then transformed into black ink.
